Q: Do you supply the field or get permission for me?

No. Alberta's Wildlife Act does not allow buying or selling access to land for waterfowl hunting, and Spread Shed does not guide. Renters obtain landowner permission themselves.

Q: When is goose and duck season near Calgary?

Alberta Zone 2, which includes Calgary and Strathmore, opens September 8 and closes December 23 for ducks and dark geese. Daily bag is 8 ducks and 8 geese. An Alberta game bird licence, the federal Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit with habitat stamp, and non-toxic shot are required.

Q: Are you an outfitter?

No. Spread Shed is an equipment rental business: no guiding, no field access, no licences. Renters hunt under their own licence on land they have permission for.

Three ways to rent

Zone 2 season opens September 8 and closes December 23. Prices in Canadian dollars, GST extra. Weekend is Friday noon to Sunday night. Midweek blocks are for the 7-on, 7-off crowd: the fields are empty Tuesday to Thursday and so is the calendar.

Pick up Friday or Monday after 4 pmStrathmore, ten minutes off Highway 1. Full Spread comes on the trailer; bring a 2-inch ball and working trailer lights. We photograph your licence and plate.

Hunt your own fieldYou get permission from the landowner yourself. We'll tell you where we've seen birds working that week; the ask is yours to make.

Return by 9 pm Sunday or ThursdayDecoys knocked clean, blinds brushed out, spinners in their cases. Deposit released same day.

Before you book

Where can I rent goose decoys near Calgary?

Spread Shed rents full-body Canada goose and mallard decoys, layout blinds and spinning-wing decoys from Strathmore, 45 minutes east of Calgary on Highway 1. Pickup is at the shed; delivery is available within 60 km.

How much does it cost to rent a decoy spread in Alberta?

A full field spread with blinds and spinners rents for $450 for a weekend or $300 for a two-day midweek block. Decoys-only starts at $175. Book before March 1 and the 2027 early-bird rate is $350 and $225.

Do you supply the field or get permission for me?

No. Alberta's Wildlife Act does not allow anyone to buy or sell access to land for waterfowl hunting, and we don't guide. You find your field and ask the landowner. County landowner maps and the iHunter app show you who to ask, and we'll share where birds have been feeding that week.

What's in a Full Spread?

36 full-body Canada geese, 72 full-body mallards, 4 spinning-wing decoys with charged batteries, 4 layout blinds, 2 flags, slotted bags for everything, and the trailer it rides on.

Can I rent midweek?

Yes. Tuesday to Wednesday and Monday to Thursday blocks are priced below weekends because the fields are quieter and so is the calendar. Shift workers on days off are most of our midweek bookings.

Do I need my own truck?

For Full Spread, yes: a half-ton or bigger with a 2-inch ball and a working light plug. Basic fits in a truck box or an SUV. Delivered means we bring it to you.

What happens if I break something?

Normal wear is ours. A snapped stake or a lost head is yours at the posted damage schedule: $40 per full-body, $150 per blind, $100 per spinner. We charge against the card deposit and send you the receipt.
